Today’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

Psalm 95:1-6 says…

Come! Let’s sing for joy to the Lord!
Let’s shout out praises to our protector who delivers us!Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving!Let’s shout out to him in celebration!
For the Lord is a great God,a great king who is superior to all gods.
The depths of the earth are in his hand, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it.His hands formed the dry land.
Come! Let’s bow down and worship!Let’s kneel before the Lord, our creator!

What are you truly thankful for? What is it that you feel the greatest amount of gratitude for? Hopefully, that is for a relationship with Christ Himself. You have been given so much by God. You have been given salvation, life, eternal life, and so much more. The list would be truly never-ending.

Unfortunately, as humans tend to do, there is a focus on the things that God gives rather than on God Himself. Scripture calls our appreciation of and attention to the these things, that are considered more than God, idolatry.

Today, be encouraged and be challenged to look at the giver and not the gifts. Be reminded that as you look at the trees, the ocean, the animals, your family, or whatever it is that gives you great satisfaction… that it is not the gifts that are worthy of our praise and thanksgiving, but the one who has given them.

God Himself, is the greatest gift of all mankind; we should do prayer of thanksgiving for Him. That He would make himself available to His creation as much as He has is unbelievable in itself. Today, think about all of the things you are thankful for and then remember that each one of those items is there in order that you might remember and glorify God. For in Colossians 1:16, it says…

for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him – all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers – all things were created through him and for him.

All of creation, including you and the things that you enjoy are ultimately “For Him” and His glory. Pray for the strength to recognize this each and every day. Don’t make the mistake of thanking God for His gifts and leave it there. Thank Him for His gifts and then continue to thank Him for making Himself known. You serve a mighty God who is worthy of all praise… let not the praise end on the items he created and thus be guilty of idolatry.

Pray With A Thankful Heart :

Lord, a million years would not be enough time to express how truly thankful I am… an eternity might not be enough. I do not know how to fully express how incredibly grateful and thankful I am to know You the almighty, living God of all. I want to thank you for the gift of Your Son, Jesus, who died in my place. It was my death to die and yet, because of Your great love, I have been given life and freedom. May I live each moment of each day with a thankful heart that overflows in praise of Your Son.

Father, you have given me so much more than I deserve or could have even hoped for. I pray that I live with a thankful and content heart in You. I ask that I never fall victim to the temptation of loving what You have given more than I do You. I want my life to reflect the reality of Your worth. May I live each moment, telling others of all that You have done and that they see just how amazing You truly are.

Should I begin to focus more on Your gifts than I do You, I ask that You would remove those until my affections are entirely on You as my Lord and Savior. Like Your apostle Paul, I want to be content in little and in much, knowing that You are my everything and the only place I find my value. I pray this would be true of me all the days of my life. In Christ’s name I pray, AMEN.
