Today’s Prayer Of Family

Do you remember the story of Hannah found in the book of First Samuel? What a truly gut wrenching experience for her and for any woman. So many families that desire to have children are unable to have children. Adding insult to injury, these same individuals live in a society where for convenience sake, so many others terminate pregnancies. Yet Hannah, a servant of God sought Him out and prayed a prayer that only He could answer.

Hannah’s Prayer :

9 on one occasion in Shiloh, after they had finished eating and drinking, Hannah got up. (Now at the time Eli the priest was sitting in his chair by the doorpost of the Lord’s temple.) 10 She was very upset as she prayed to the Lord, and she was weeping uncontrollably. 11 She made a vow saying, “O Lord of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the suffering of your female servant, remembering me and not forgetting your servant, and give a male child to your servant, then I will dedicate him to the Lord all the days of his life. His hair will never be cut.”
12 as she continued praying to the Lord, Eli were watching her mouth. 13 Now Hannah was speaking from her heart. Although her lips were moving, her voice was inaudible. Eli therefore thought she was drunk. 14 So he said to her, “How often do you intend to get drunk? Put away your wine!”
15 But Hannah replied, “That’s not the way it is, my lord! I am under a great deal of stress. I have drunk neither wine nor beer. Rather, I have poured out my soul to the Lord. 16 Don’t consider your servant a wicked woman, for until now I have spoken from my deep pain and anguish.”

When you pray with this kind of strength and trust and faith, God is honored. You can pray for many things in this life that others are able to assist in answering (even if God is the one providing the other person). However, when you pray for a child, this is a prayer that only God can answer. What does Hannah’s prayer teach every woman, every couple and every family? God is intimately involved and concerned with the affairs of your life. Your God, the living God, is not removed, despondent or disconnected. He hears you! He sees you! He cares for you!

Therefore, you are able to take any concern that directly impacts your family to God. As the inventor and author of the family unit, you can rest in the fact that He cares and is committed. In learning from Hannah… humble yourself, be His servant, trust God and pray for your family without fail.

Prayer Of Family :

Precious Father in Heaven. Let me stop right there and truly recognize you as Father. I realize that I am a part of your family. What an honor. I do not deserve this, but because of your grace and your forgiveness and your love, you have chosen to adopt me into your family. Understanding this Lord, I know that I can bring before You my concerns for my family. I know that You care about my family both now and in the future.

Because of this, I ask that You provide me the desires of my heart that are in concert with Your will. I pray that you will give me the strength to trust you with the most intimate and important details of my life and my heart. I willingly accept whatever You bring my way. If you desire to provide a child, I say thank you in advance. I love You and want to make You known in the world. Allow me, for Your namesake, to have this prayer answered so that those around me might know You as the Almighty God that You are. It is in the name of your amazingly precious Son, Jesus Christ that I pray… AMEN!
