Today’s Prayer for Strength

Ephesians 3:14-19 says…

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on the earth is named.I pray that according to the wealth of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love, you may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and thus to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. What a wonderful prayer by Paul for the church in Ephesus and the surrounding churches. Paul knew that the task before his fellow believers was a tall one. In fact, apart from prayer and the strength of the Lord it was an impossible task.

Truth is, not much has changed… in fact, nothing has changed. We need the strength of the Lord by a prayer for strength to empower us so that we might stand. We must be filled by the Spirit of God if we desire to live this life in an effective and godly manner.

A truth worth consider is this… too many Christians have misunderstood and misapplied the truth of the gospel. Most understand that they are in desperate need of the Lord for salvation. Yet, once salvation is received, believe the rest of life is up to them, Scripture says the contrary. We are to live out our lives in the same manner in which they began (spiritually speaking). By faith and the power of God. We see this truth in Galatians 3:1-5

You foolish Galatians! Who has cast a spell on you? Before your eyes Jesus Christ was vividly portrayed as crucified! The only thing I want to learn from you is this: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the law or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? Although you began with the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort?Have you suffered so many things for nothing? – if indeed it was for nothing.Does God then give you the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law or by your believing what you heard?

As you prayer for strength, pray that you would be filled with The Spirit and that your life would be one of faith. These two things have to happen hand in hand if you are going to experience the strength of The Lord in your life.

Prayer for Strength :

Amazing Sovereign God, I come to you knowing that you are in all, above all and through all. It is because of your position as sovereign and all powerful God that I know I can find my strength in You. Today, I ask for Your Spirit to fill me, to strengthen me for the task at hand.

Before I take another step, I want to know that I am resting in Your power and Your power alone. I desire to not take another step if it is within my own power. Time and time again, Lord, I have tried to live this life on my own only to stumble and fall. Honestly, I am tired of and unwilling to continue trying to live this life on my own strength.

Teach me how to come to You, to trust You, to be continually filled by Your Spirit so that You might be glorified in me. For those who accuse me of using You and faith as a crutch, might I point out how insignificant that statement truly is. Might I sing of Your praised declaring that I depend on You for absolutely everything. I depend on You for the breath in my lungs, the next beat of my heart and the next step that I take. I also depend on You to live out Your will in my life. Give me the strength to make you known and to engage in the battles that are set before me. As King David declared your might when he took down Goliath, rather than singing his own praises, I pray that the same would be true of me. For Your Honor and Your Glory, in the name of Christ I pray, Amen.
